Aylesbury personal trainer sets WRPF UK bench record and targets another at Coventry FitXpo

On Sunday 25 October, I competed in my first bench-only powerlifting competition and set a WRPF UK national record with a 157.5 kg raw bench press in the Masters 1, 82.5 kg category. The lift flew up, and I’m still buzzing about it.

As a personal trainer, I wanted to show that you can lose weight while maintaining your strength, learn a new skill and chase a big goal in your 40s—all while balancing work, family and training.

Reflexions Health & Leisure has been a big part of this journey. It’s where I work and train, and the friendly, supportive atmosphere has given me the perfect place to practise and keep working towards a goal that means so much to me. I’m genuinely grateful to be part of that community.

I’m now preparing for the UKIPL event at Coventry FitXpo this November, where I’ll be aiming to set a British record with another federation, build on my 157.5 kg lift and climb higher in the UK all-time rankings.

My wife watched from the crowd, my friend supported me backstage, and my children watched live from home. Sharing that moment with them made the achievement even more special.
