Shop Local, Explore and Save: Discover Buckingham Day

Buckingham’s independent shops and small businesses are coming together for Discover Buckingham, a free town centre event celebrating the fantastic variety of businesses, activities and experiences on offer right on the doorstep.

Taking place on Saturday, September 5, from 10.30am to 4.30pm, Discover Buckingham invites residents and visitors to explore four themed zones across the town: Cornwalls Meadow, High Street, Hidden Quarter and Old Town. With a packed programme of activities, demonstrations, tastings, freebies and special discounts, there’s something for everyone to discover.

Visitors can enjoy live music throughout the day, alongside activities including children’s poetry, yoga sessions, creative workshops, artist demonstrations, free skin scans, a butcher’s demonstration, bike health checks and much more. There will also be opportunities to sample food and drink, including Bordeaux wine and Indian food tastings, plus an afternoon tea showcase.

The event is also a chance to discover some of Buckingham’s many independent businesses, from restaurants, cafés and gift shops to art galleries, clothing retailers, beauty businesses and specialist stores. Participating businesses will be offering exclusive discounts, freebies, vouchers and special offers throughout the day – making it easier than ever to explore locally without spending a fortune.

Jen Burton, one of the organisers and owner of Bea & Aud Lifestyle, a business taking part, said: “We want to shine a light on the incredible range of small businesses we have here in Buckingham. From restaurants and gift shops to galleries, fashion, beauty and so much more, there’s a huge amount to discover locally.

"We hope Discover Buckingham encourages people to explore their own town, try somewhere new and see that shopping local can be enjoyable and affordable.”

With four zones to explore and plenty happening throughout the day, visitors are encouraged to make a day of it, discover businesses they may not have visited before and support the independent businesses that make Buckingham unique. The event is free to attend, with activities, offers and discounts available across the town centre.
