Buckingham ready for festive Christmas Lights Switch-On
The countdown to Christmas is officially on as Buckingham prepares to light up the town centre for its annual Christmas Lights Switch-On event on Thursday 26th November, from 4.30pm to 7.00pm.

Organised by Buckingham Town Council, this community celebration will mark the start of the festive season, bringing together residents, visitors, local businesses and community groups for an evening of entertainment, shopping and Christmas cheer. The celebrations will include performances from the Bourton Meadow Academy Choir and the Bucks Gospel Fellowship Choir, setting the scene for the main event as the Mayor of Buckingham, Councillor Fran Davies, joins the winners of the Mayor’s Christmas Card Competition to switch on the town’s Christmas lights.

Visitors will be able to browse a wide range of local market stalls, food and drink vendors and charity stands, offering everything from Christmas gifts and handmade crafts to seasonal treats. Many town centre businesses will also remain open later than usual, providing a perfect opportunity for residents and visitors to begin their Christmas shopping while supporting local traders.
Families can enjoy a free ride on the Octopus fair ride, while a quiet gazebo will be available throughout the evening for anyone who would like to take a break in a calm and relaxed space. Santa will also be making a special appearance in his Santa Van, and visitors will have plenty of opportunities to capture memories with a host of amazing roaming entertainers throughout the town centre.
Councillor Stuchbury, Chair of the Town Centre and Events Committee, said:
“We look forward to welcoming everyone back to Buckingham’s Christmas Lights Switch-On this year as we come together to celebrate the start of the festive season. The event will be led by our Mayor, Councillor Fran Davies, and promises to be a wonderful evening for families, friends and visitors. Events like this are only possible because of the dedication, planning and hard work of Council staff and all those involved in organising the evening. Their efforts help support our town centre businesses while creating an enjoyable community celebration where people can meet, socialise and enjoy the atmosphere around Buckingham’s Christmas tree.”
