A great night was had-dock by all – patient social evening goes down a treat!
On Thursday, 22 October, Stoke Mandeville Spinal Research (SMSR) hosted a special social evening for patients, friends and families to talk openly about living with spinal cord injury (SCI) and life after rehabilitation.

More than 50 patients and their guests attended the event at Cafe Oasis in the National Spinal Injuries Centre, Stoke Mandeville, where they shared fish and chips while listening to speakers discuss new research that could improve life’s daily challenges for the SCI community.
Speakers Irene Frost and SMSR Ambassador Ralph Charlwood led an insightful Q&A session, giving guests the chance to ask questions about living with SCI and its complications, including topics covering building confidence socially after leaving hospital.

Kate Favell, SMSR’s Partnerships Manager, commented: “Thank you to all the patients, friends and family who came along and made the evening such a success. It really was wonderful to welcome you all. A big thank you also to HFH Healthcare, our event sponsor, who attended on the night.”
Every 2 hours someone in the UK sustains a spinal cord injury - that's 12 people every day. As a result of their injury, many people with paralysis experience a lifetime of debilitating health complications.
