When Aylesbury Vale roads will be closed under £1.4m water network project

Anglian Water has revealed when it is implementing roadworks as part of its major water network upgrade scheme.

Last week, the water provider confirmed it had authorised a large-scale revamp of part of its water network in Aylesbury Vale at a cost of £1.4m.

This week the company has revealed which roads will be shut and when during the operation.

Once complete the upgrades will affect people living in Granborough and North Marston with the works involving replacing ageing water pipes between the two villages.

In total, 3.4km of water piping will be ripped up and replaced to address the network’s vulnerability to potential leaks. Work on the project started on September 1 and is expected to be completed by April 2027.

Analysis from the water company showed that some of the pipes were reaching the end of their life. Anglian Water recorded 13 bursts in the last five years, households endured low water pressure as a result and some lost access.

Megan Sperryn, customer experience specialist, for the project said: "Our £1.4m investment to strengthen the water network between Granborough and North Marston is part of our £348 million investment that will renew 1,134 kilometres of water mains across the East of England by 2030. During this period of drought, we are asking our customers to help save water via our hosepipe ban, and we are investing for the future to reduce leakage and improve the resilience of our water network.

"We'd like to thank local residents and road users in advance for their patience while we carry out these essential upgrades. We've worked closely with the local bus company so services can continue running while the closures are in place, with a revised timetable available at anglianwaterproject.com/Granborough.

"This investment is part of our wider work to strengthen the region's water network and help ensure communities continue to receive a reliable water supply long into the future."

The current road closure schedule has been arranged:

-Winslow Road: Road closure from September 1 to October 5

-The Junction for Hogshaw Road & Winslow Road: Temporary traffic lights for a yet to be confirmed period.

-Winslow Road: Road closure from October 5 to November 6.

-The junction for Church Lane, Marston Road, Green End and Winslow Road: Temporary traffic lights for a yet to be confirmed period.

-Granborough Road: Road closure from November 9 to February 3, 2027.

Anglian Water warns that bus services and timetables will be changing as a result of the works. Residents living within the closure areas will continue to be able to access their properties, although access arrangements will change as construction progresses, Anglian Water also advises.

Residents are being told to follow signposted information regarding the project and road restrictions.
