Artist’s impressions of the new visitor centre have also been released for the first time, offering a glimpse of how the facility will look when it opens to the public in spring 2028.

Delivered through a decade long partnership between Barratt David Wilson North Thames, the RSPB and Buckinghamshire Council, Kingsbrook Meadows demonstrates how new homes and investment in nature can go hand in hand to create places where both people and wildlife can thrive.

Kingsbrook Meadows will eventually extend to 250 acres – equivalent to approximately 140 full-size football pitches – alongside the award-winning Kingsbrook development.

Representatives from Barratt David Wilson North Thames, the RSPB and Buckinghamshire Council came together to mark the start of construction and celebrate the latest progress at Kingsbrook Meadows. They were joined by key local stakeholders, including Kingsbrook, Bierton and Hulcott Parish Council and representatives from Kingsbrook View Primary Academy.

When fully open in 2028, Kingsbrook Meadows will become a major visitor attraction for the local community and those from further afield. The new visitor centre and café will provide a focal point for the site, alongside walking trails, a wild play area and opportunities to experience nature throughout the year.

Over time, areas that are currently open fields will be transformed into a diverse mosaic of habitats and outdoor spaces, including wetlands, meadows, pools, woodland and gardens. Visitors will be able to experience this transformation as it takes place, watching the landscape develop with opportunities to get involved along the way.

Bill Beyzade, Managing Director at Barratt David Wilson North Thames, said: “The start of construction on the new RSPB visitor centre marks a significant milestone in our shared vision for Kingsbrook. Following more than a decade of collaboration and commitment from all partners involved, it is immensely rewarding to see these plans taking shape. The visitor centre will not only enhance this unique natural environment but also deliver lasting benefits for both the local community and the wildlife that makes Kingsbrook such a special place.”

Michael Copleston, RSPB England Director, said: “Breaking ground at Kingsbrook Meadows to begin building the new visitor centre marks the moment our shared, long-planned vision begins to take physical shape. This is a project built on a strong partnership, and reaching this important milestone shows what can be achieved when developers, councils and conservation organisations collaborate with ambition.

“Kingsbrook Meadows will become a place where thousands of people can connect with nature in their daily lives – somewhere welcoming, accessible and rooted in the needs of the local community. It’s a major step towards creating a site that will show how nature-rich spaces can be woven into the heart of growing communities.”

Peter Strachan, Buckinghamshire Council's Deputy Leader, and Cabinet Member for Planning said: "This is fantastic news for residents. When complete, Kingsbrook Meadows will span around 250 acres, equivalent to approximately 140 football pitches. It will provide a wonderful place for people to walk, exercise, spend time with friends and family, and connect with nature.

"Kingsbrook Meadows shows how we can create benefits for both residents and wildlife. Designated as a Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG), it has been designed to offer an attractive and accessible place for people to enjoy the outdoors while helping to protect sensitive wildlife habitats.

"Working with Barratt David Wilson North Thames and the RSPB, we are creating something that local communities can enjoy for years to come. I'm looking forward to seeing Kingsbrook Meadows grow into a well-loved place for residents, families and visitors."
