An action-packed weekend for the D&T Road Runners

It was another busy weekend for the Dacorum & Tring Road Runners – not only did they have parkrun and cross country meets on Saturday, but they had dozens of club members in action on Sunday too.

The club had five runners out at the Ridgeway Run, a 15k jaunt starting and finishing in Tring and taking in stretches of the Ridgeway Path around Ashridge.

The ladies’ team started their autumn season in style, with a first place overall and first prize for top ladies’ team – only a day after the ladies team took top spot in the Chiltern League cross country series.

Kate Rennie was first overall for the women, setting a new course record of 1.02.55, and winning £75, while Ania Gabb was seventh overall in 1.08.36.

Thanks to strong runs from team-mates Niamh Dempsey (1.11.53), Samantha Sullivan (1.20.57) and Ruth Eykelbosch (1.21.27), the ladies’ team came home first overall.

Stephen Shaw, meanwhile, finished in the top-10 in the competitive VM50 category, finishing in 1.09.32.

In other news, ultra marathoner and Ironman triathlete Jan Strachan smashed her marathon PB by 23 minutes to finish the Plusnet York Marathon in 4.07, with team-mate Tim Churchill, also an experienced long-distance triathlete, finishing just ahead in 4.06.

Three club members took part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London, taking in four of London’s royal parks – Hyde Park, Green Park, St James’ Park and Kensington Gardens.

Louise Tainsh had a fabulous race, finishing in 1.40, while Caroline Smart scored a new PB, crossing the line with Andy Young in a time of 1.47.48.

Manon Pagniez, meanwhile, took part in another city-centre race, finishing the Paris 20km as she looks to break her half marathon PB in two weeks’ time.

Closer to home, four D&T runners competed in the Herts 10k race, organised to raise funds for the Rennie Grove Hospice Care: Andy Mitchell leading the team home in a new PB of 50.53, with Jim Mason not far behind, finishing in an impressive 52.42. Leah Sill was first lady for the club, in a time of 1.01.13, with Kodie Mitchell next in 1.07.16.

Elsewhere, Sarah Grover and her dad Alan ran the Huntsman Sprint Triathlon together, with Sarah, a top 800m runner for the club, finishing as sixth lady overall in a time of 1.26, and Alan crossing the line in 1.48.
