Village society celebrates 50 year anniversary

The Brill Society was formed in 1965 when, according to the society, the village common looked like a rubbish dump.

The society strived to improve it and successfully achieved that aim.

Since then, it has campaigned to have the overhead wires in the conservation area moved underground, was instrumental in the restoration of Hartwell’s Barn (now an environmental centre) and worked with Bucks County Council in obtaining grant funding for the restoration of the Grade Two windmill.

The keys to the windmill were handed over to the village last month, with society chair Jan Molyneux receiving them from Bucks County Council vice-chairman Bill Chapple.

The society has also hosted numerous talks and arranged outings and walks.

To celebrate the anniversary there will be a party on the Common near the windmill, on Sunday June 28 from 1pm to 6pm.

There will also be a marquee, live music by two bands The Hole in the Head Gang and The Pound Shop Glasses, plus a bar, barbecue, tug of war, children’s fancy dress competition and a display of ceramic plaques made by Brill schoolchildren.
