Chiltern Railways announces name change ahead of Government ownership
Chiltern Railways informed customers of its imminent change of ownership as it moves into Government control.
Last week, the company emailed its customers informing them that it will now be known as Chiltern Rail Limited.
From next Monday, the rail service will fall under public ownership as part of a larger Government strategy.
Last year, the Department for Transport announced plans to bring a majority of the UK’s train services under its control.

It was said that this would help improve the reliability of the public transport service and rebuild the public’s trust in using trains.
Great Western Railways is also coming under Government control later this year. South Western Railway, East Coast Mainline trains, and Southeastern Railway, have all already transitioned over to a Government model.
Great British Railways is the name the Government has given to the service which will be responsible for managing the companies that are transitioning over to a public ownership model.
“Although the legal operator is changing, you'll continue to see the same Chiltern Railways, and the same teams running your trains,” Chiltern Railways told its customers last week.
Customers were also told that the data held on Chiltern Railway systems would be transferred over to Chiltern Railway Company Limited.
Chiltern Railways is responsible for the direct commuter trains transporting customers to and from London and Aylesbury. The company was also appointed to deliver the behind-schedule East West Rail project, which included the construction of a new train station in Winslow.
East Midlands Railway, Avanti West Coast and CrossCountry are the three train services that will be run privately heading into 2027.
