Primary pupils create outdoor art installation

They have teamed up with College Lake Artists at College Lake Nature Reserve near Tring, during the open studios event which runs from Saturday, June 11 to June 26.

Artist and teacher Catherine McCartney-Smith has worked with the children on the installation featuring logs with characterful clay faces, overlooking the lake.

Catherine said: “This is the first time the Visual Images Group of Bucks Open Studio artists has included the works of a primary school and the project has been exciting and rewarding. As well as producing some wonderful art work, the pupils have benefited enormously from being part of the team of artists at College Lake.”

The installation is made from logs and unfired clay and is about the possibility of looking differently at nature and using the imagination to see images amongst natural forms.

The pupils are inviting parents, friends and the community to an art-making workshop at College Lake during the BOS event on Sunday, June 12. Visit between 10.30am and 3.30pm when the Brookmead artists will guide you through the process of making your own clay sculpture on logs, which can form part of the installation.
