First look at £2.4m investment transforming Chiltern Railways station

Gerrards Cross station, a commuter spot on Chiltern Railways, has received a £2.4 million investment to upgrade its facilities.

The big kitty was used to modernise the station that was first built way back in 1906.

Network Rail has overseen the operation and announced the following new features and improvements:

-Platform canopy roofs and glazing replaced with more durable materials to protect waiting passengers from the elements

-New lighting installed to brighten up the station making it safe and secure at night

-The 1906-built station’s main roof entirely replaced

-Additional glazing repairs around the station

-Repainting of traditional steelwork

Lawrence James, scheme project manager for Network Rail, said: “We take great care to look after our heritage buildings and the work at Gerrards Cross shows how we’re building back better as the country emerges from the coronavirus pandemic.

“This Railway Upgrade Plan investment of £2.4m we hope will make a huge difference for people who use Gerrards Cross station, creating a cleaner and brighter environment and improving their journeys for years to come.”

The work started back in March 2020 and has finished this month.
