Youth Concern accepted a cheque for £19,403.39 from Mike Smith, the mayor of Aylesbury.

Due to Covid-19 the cheque was accepted virtually.

The money is the result of a year’s fundraising, after the charity was nominated by the mayor at the start of his term of office.

A spokesperson for Youth Concern said: “This completely exceeded all of our expectations, and considering fundraising efforts had to be curtailed from March onwards, it is an outstanding achievement.

“Above all, this confirms the kindness and generosity of people in Aylesbury and beyond.

“This amazing sum of money will enable us to continue our vital work with vulnerable young people in Aylesbury.

“Our heartfelt thanks to Mike and his team.”

Youth Concern is an independent charity that protects and empowers vulnerable young people in Aylesbury Vale and beyond.

The charity has previously been the subject of The Bucks Herald’s Christmas appeal, and recently CEO Hannah Asquith wrote an article for this newspaper describing how the charity is coping, and has adapted its work so that no young person is forgotten during the pandemic.
