Haydon Abbey celebrating Tesco campaign success

Haydon Abbey School in Aylesbury benefited to the tune of £12,000 courtesy of Tesco’s Bags of Help initiative.

The project saw grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p bag levy – being awarded to environmental and green spaces projects.

Money from the award will be used to help the school build a wonderful new and modern outdoor learning area for their reception pupils.

 The new facility will offer pupils different types of equipment that will help them to develop their fine motor skills.

The space will also be used to allow pupils to grow their own vegetables and plants. 

Headteacher Judith Ejdowski said she wanted to thank all of the Tesco shoppers who voted for their project.

Mrs Ejdowski said: “Winning the campaign is such an amazing achievement for the school and highlights the tremendous support the local community gives us.

“This funding gives the school a wonderful opportunity to improve the outdoor environment for our younger children.

“The new outdoor area will provide our children with various types of equipment to support their learning across all areas of the curriculum.”

Zahir Mohammed, cabinet member for education and skills at Bucks County Council said: “This is wonderful news for Haydon Abbey and I’d like to add my thanks for the support from the local community.”

The refurbishment project will begin shortly and it is hoped it will be completed before the start of the new term in September.
