Handwritten apology with rabbits dumped in car park

Six rabbits were dumped in car park together with a handwritten apology from their owner.

The rabbits – four males and two females – were found on Thursday morning in the car park of the RSPCA’s Blackberry Farm Animal Centre, in Quainton.

The handwritten note apologising was on top of one of the carriers.

A vet examination has found that all six rabbits – who have been named Mungo, Murry, Muriel, Morwenna, Morton and Moses – are in poor health, and were suffering from fur mites and fleas.

One also had an untreated abscess.

Chief inspector Rob Hartley said: “Sadly, rabbits are one of the most neglected animals that we deal with and this highlights the problems we get with owners failing to meet their needs correctly.

“I am sure someone somewhere will be able to identify them, as it sounds as if the owner just couldn’t cope and could not afford to treat them.

“They are now receiving the best care possible but it is sad that they ended up in this position in the first place.”

Bridget Crutchfield, from Blackberry Farm, said: “Rabbits and guinea pigs seem to be so commonly abandoned, and it’s always heartbreaking when more are brought in.

“We’re now hoping to find responsible new owners for the many animals we have, who will meet their needs properly and provide them with all the care and attention they deserve.”
