Thames Valley Police issue second highest number of Coronavirus penalty notices in England

Figures revealed over the weekend have shown that out of all the police forces in England, Thames Valley Police have issued the second highest number of penalties for people not complying with Coronavirus lockdown legislation.

They have issued 866 penalty notices.

This is second only to the Metropolitan Police, who have issued 906 notices.

The figures account for the dates from 27 March to 11 May.

The National Police Chief's Council have released data showing that 13,455 fines have been issued by forces across England for people not complying with legislation.

Behind the Met and Thames Valley Police, the third most number of fines issued was in North Yorkshire with 843, and in fourth place Devon and Cornwall with 799.

Warwickshire have only issued 31 fines since lockdown began, and Staffordshire just 52.

Shockingly, there have been 862 repeat offenders, with one person having been fined NINE times.

Data has shown the day which saw the most fines issued was on Easter Sunday, following sunny weather, 600 fines were issued on Saturday April 11 followed by 500 on the Sunday.

The first fine someone could receive if police believed they were flouting restrictions in England rose from £60 to £100 on Wednesday.

This will be lowered to £50 if paid within 14 days but fines will double for each repeat offence, up to a maximum of £3,200.
