“The NHS and Public Health England (PHE) are well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases.

"All frontline staff receive regular mandatory and statutory training on caring for patients with infectious diseases in accordance with national guidance - this includes training on personal protective clothing and equipment.

"Training refreshers for all staff have been stepped up since February to ensure our teams are fully prepared and ready to deal with the anticipated increase of COVID-19 patients."

“We know that the availability of personal protective equipment is important for our frontline NHS staff. The supply of equipment has been ramped up in recent days, and there has been an announcement by the government last week regarding the further strengthening of arrangements.”
