Over a quarter of a million people have now contracted coronavirus worldwide. The current number is 304,341.

In a letter to the public, Buckinghamshire Shadow Executive leader Martin Tett said: “These are difficult and very challenging times. This makes it even more important that we come together to support each other.”

He continued: “As the impact of coronavirus increases, we may need to make some temporary changes to some services. This is so we can protect people from infection and use our staff and resources where they are most needed.

“It is important that we communicate any changes to residents and ongoing engagement with communities will be a priority. Information about any service changes will be released to the press and published on our website www.buckinghamshire.gov.uk.”

During the Government's daily briefing, Boris Johnson said on Friday that bars, pubs and restaurants will close from Friday evening. This will be enforced through licencing restrictions if necessary, the Prime Minister confirmed. Cinemas, nightclubs and gyms will also be closing.

Following Mr Johnson's announcement, the chancellor Rishi Sunak unveiled what he called "unprecedented measures for unprecedented times."

Mr Sunak said that the Government will cover 80% of wages up to £2,500 a month for retained workers, and has committed almost £1 billion of support for renters.

The latest NHS advice on minimising the chances of contracting coronavirus are:

- Wash your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds

- Always wash your hands when you get home or into work

- Use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available

- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) if you cough or sneeze

- Put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards

- Avoid close contact with people who have symptoms of coronavirus

- Only travel on public transport if you need to

- Work from home if possible

- Avoid social activities, such as going to pubs, restaurants, theatres and cinemas

- Avoid events with large groups of people

- Use phone, online services, or apps to contact your GP surgery or other NHS services

- Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

- Do not have visitors to your home, including friends and family
