Wendover Manor celebrates its heritage with commemorative stone-laying ceremony

The ceremony was led by Peter Evans, Chief Executive Officer of Salveo Care, and Grace Holland, Managing Director of Salveo Care, who placed two stones into the building’s entrance brickwork. One dates back to August 1867 and bears the initials MSC. It is believed to be the only surviving piece of the original Victorian building, which later became Mid Bucks Nursing Home and Chiltern Court Care Home. The meaning of the initials MSC remains a mystery, and Salveo Care hopes local historians may be able to help uncover their story.

The second stone, inscribed Salveo Care 2026, represents a new chapter for the site and the development of Wendover Manor. Drawing on Salveo Care’s experience in providing care, the new home will offer space, facilities and surroundings designed to deliver the very best care for up to 55 residents, both now and for many years to come.

Speaking at the event, Peter said: “These two stones will sit together as a reminder of where we’ve come from and where we’re going. But ultimately, it’s not the bricks and mortar that make a care home special. It’s the people who live there, the families who visit and the staff who care for them.”

The new building is taking shape, with the Show Suite now open for appointments and the first residents expected to join in January 2027. Recruitment is also underway, creating dozens of local employment opportunities, while Salveo Care continues to develop relationships with local businesses, schools, colleges and the wider community.

Representatives from Salveo Care, Lifebuild, Scurr Architects and Aedifice gathered to celebrate this important milestone and look ahead to the next chapter of Wendover Manor.
