Now in its fifth year, Winslow Hall Opera presents a new production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni this summer.

An opera in two acts with an Italian libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte, it is based on the legend of Don Juan.

Premiered in Prague in October 1787, Mozart entered the work into his catalogue as an opera buffa, blending comedy and melodrama with supernatural elements.

Oliver Gilmour, having conducted La Traviata and Lucia di Lammermoor for Winslow Hall Opera in the two previous years, returns to take up the baton in 2016.

He has assembled a fabulous cast including Elena Xanthoudakis whose performances as Lucia in 2014 and Violetta in 2015 left audiences awe-struck. She returns as Donna Anna.

Marcin Bronikowski, the outstanding Polish baritone will sing the title role.

The opera will be sung in Italian with English subtitles and performed in a totally enclosed performance marquee with tiered seating, ensuring optimum comfort whatever the weather.

Performances take place at 6pm on Wednesday July 13, Friday July 15, Wednesday July 20 and Friday July 22; and at 3pm on Sunday July 17 and Sunday July 24.

The evening performances will have a 90 minute supper interval.

The Sunday matinee performances will have a 30 minute interval, although the gardens of the house will be open from noon for anyone wishing to picnic before the opera.

Gazebos in the garden maybe booked for picnics, and there will be ample room for parking in the field opposite the Hall.
