Dame Judi takes crown as UK’s top celebrity mum

Dame Judi Dench is not only a legend on the silver screen, but she can now add the crown of UK Celebrity Mum to her list of achievements as well, according to research celebrating Mother’s Day from family history site genesreunited.co.uk.

Also joining her in the Celebrity Mum Hall of Fame, as voted by the British public, are Helen Mirren and Joanna Lumley who come a close second and third.

The website’s Rhoda Breakell said: “Our mothers are a huge source of inspiration and this Sunday many families will be getting together to show their thanks and appreciation.

“Each is unique and special in their own way, but it’s also interesting to see who the nation might go for, if given the choice. The top three in our poll embody humour, success and integrity, clearly qualities that inspire many people across the country.”

Dame Judi Dench’s character as ‘M’ in the James Bond films is famous for dishing out advice to James Bond, and the same can be said about mums and children across the UK. Almost a quarter of us (23 per cent) have been given life-changing advice by our mums and a fifth (21 per cent) turn to them first for tips on love and relationships.

Good manners (80 per cent), a strong work ethic (74 per cent) and loyalty to friends and family (70 per ) are the main values Brits pass down the generations. Humour (59 per cent), thriftiness (44 per cent) and superstitions (19 per cent) are further qualities Brits learn from their families.

Rhoda said: “The advice and values passed to us through the generations of our families are what help shape the people we are today. As a nation we look to our mums for many different things throughout our lives. Their knowledge and advice help us to learn more about ourselves, who we are and where we have come from.”
