Music in the villages returns

Robert Secret, musical director of Aylesbury Vale's Music in Quiet Places concerts

Sublime classical concerts performed in some of the most idyllic settings in our area, have returned for May and June.

Music in Quiet Places, devised by musical director Robert Secret and managed by Aylesbury Vale District Council, provides an opportunity for rural communities to enjoy a special event together.

The idea behind the concert series is to enable families, friends and visitors to enjoy a professional concert as well as discovering beautiful new places in the Vale, writes Heather Jan Brunt.

Before each concert a heritage walk around the scenic village locations is led by a local historian. The walks are free and open to all, whether attending the concert or not.

The first concert is in Steeple Claydon at the Church of St Michael on Saturday at 7.30pm. Members of the Orchestra of Stowe Opera will present Glorious Arias with mezzo soprano Sophia Grech.The music will include orchestral works by Handel and Vivaldi and arias by Gluck and Francesco Cavalli.

The walk preceding the concert will start from the church porch at 6.30pm, led by Malcolm Elder.

Other concerts throughout May and June will take place at Waddesdon, Quainton, Thorborough, Shabbington and Mursley.

In addition to local ticket agents, tickets can also be bought or booked through the Aylesbury Visitor Information Centre at the Kings Head.Season tickets can also be booked at the visitor centre.

Refreshments will be served at many of the concerts with proceeds going direc tly to the churches.

Consideration for local residents is requested when parking.

Audiences are advised that toilet facilites cannot be guaranteed at all venues.
