Tring men sign off in style before the Christmas break

There was only team in this fixture for the first 20 minutes, and it was the youthful Wycombe outfit.

They made an impressive start, hounding Tring off the ball with their speed and energy, and deservedly took the lead through a penalty corner.

Fortunately, this sparked Tring into life, and they found their feet and began to string some better passages of play together.

In an officiously-umpired match it was unsurprising that Tring’s equaliser and winner both resulted from further penalty corners, and the team managed to hold on to a hard-fought victory to successfully close out the first half of the season.

Tring move up to second in the table as Ramgarhia drew a blank against Sonning.

Elsewhere, the men’s 2s shared a 3-3 draw with OMT 4s in the last game before the Christmas break.

Tring started well, playing good positive hockey against a well organised OMT side.

For once Tring’s play was rewarded and they were quickly two goals up through a reverse stick strike from Greg Roach.

Simon Cobby doubled the advantage with a short corner goal, but OMT were always a threat and sneaked a goal back with a short corner goal of their own. OMT equalised in the second half from another short corner, and then took the lead through a shot that squeezed past the keeper.

Tring weren’t to be denied, though, with Cobby getting the final touch on a scrappy goal.

Both teams had chances to snatch a win but a draw was probably a fair result.

Meanwhile, the Tring Supervets won 4-0 away to Wimbledon with goals from Keith Stokes, Mark Griffiths, Beast and Andrew Claringbold.

The ladies’ 1s were unlucky to be defeated 2-1 by Leighton Buzzard 2s.

Once again, they dominated possession, but Leighton’s strong defence held them off. Their one goal came from their favourite short corner routine.

The ladies’ 2’s, however, had a spectacular win against Leighton Buzzard on Saturday.

Having lost to them in September, Tring were out for revenge and beat them in style 5-1.

The scorers were Claire Inglis, Lottie Woodall and Jenny Stokes.

Tring had plenty of substitutes, the team ran hard and harried well in defence.
