The Tring men double up with a brace of Witney wins

And it proved to be a very profitable couple of days as Tring kicked off the weekend with a resounding 6-2 victory against a young Old Merchant Taylors side.

The first half particularly was one of Tring’s more accomplished displays, and the scoreline could have been even more emphatic had their finishing been more clinical.

Sunday’s fixture in Witney was a totally different game; neither side seemed to show any fatigue from the previous day’s exertions, and it was a fast, free-flowing match from the outset.

In a hard-fought contest, both sides had plenty of chances, but once again it was Tring who prevailed, securing an invaluable 3-2 victory and the important three points.

There were plenty of strong performances, but particular mention must go to Dudley Moor-Radford, who flew in from the Far East on Saturday morning, played both games for Tring, drove back to Queens to play in a tennis tournament on Sunday evening, before flying back out to Asia on Monday morning.

Tring now sit more comfortably in the second promotion spot, seven points clear of third-placed Ramgarhia.

Elsewhere, Tring 2s lost 3-2 away to bottom of the table Bourton and Sherbourne 2s, while a very young Tring mens’ third side took on an experienced Aylesbury outfit and competed well despite losing 2-0.

Aylesbury pressed Tring hard in the first half and their pressure eventually paid off when they converted a penalty flick.

Tring improved in the second half as Alastair Claringbold and Alex Walters denied Aylesbury’s two dangerous wingers space, and 13-year-old George Evans came very close to scoring.

Aylesbury did score a second towards the end but Tring’s youngsters will have learnt much from the game.

Meanwhile, there was a fantastic game for the ladies 1s as they secured a well deserved 4-1 win over Welwyn.

As usual they dominated possession with their passing game and continually threatened up front, with four goals finding the back of the net.

It was also a great game from a defensive point of view, with goalkeeper Charlotte Towler being put through her paces too.

In action elsewhere, Tring ladies 2s started strongly against Saffron Walden 4s on Saturday, with Polly Hall scoring a goal within the first minute. Unfortunately that was as good as it got for Tring, and the opposition scored six goals to record an emphatic win.
