Three wins from three for red-hot Chinnor

Redruth started brightly and applied pressure from the outset, but after weathering the early storm, Chinnor set up a series of quick rucks on their first prolonged visit to the visiting 22 and it culminated in Henry Lamont bursting through a gap and scoring.

Bertie Hopkin converted and now winning the territorial battle, Chinnor began to take control of the contest with Nathan Hannay going straight through the middle of a ruck for Chinnor’s second.

Again Hopkin converted and the hosts took a commanding 14-0 lead into half-time and they continued to dominate in the second-half with Jon Phipps going over for a third try, Hopkin adding the extra two points.

Things then changed dramatically in the 62nd minute when Chinnor conceded two yellow cards in two minutes with Darlington and Thorpe trying illegally to stop the Redruth juggernaut, growing in power from a series of penalty line outs. Pressure and numbers eventually told as Redruth then rumbled over for their only score of the match, Shaun Buzza touching down.

But Chinnor’s work had been done and despite falling just short of the bonus-point, they comfortably held on for a well-deserved victory, their third from three games.

Chinnor face Barnstaple this weekend.
