Tenacious TringRugby bag a crucial victory against London Irish Wild Geese

TringRugby got back on track for the crucial run-in in National League 3 with a well deserved 21-8 win over promotion chasing London Irish Wild Geese.

Tring were in total control from beginning to the end as they raced into a 12-0 lead with tries from wingers Noah Jarvis and Theo Gayton.

A further penalty from Tom Newton saw Tring go into the break 15-0 ahead, but in truth their lead could have been even bigger.

Tring attacked with verve from deep and with vigour from close quarters, belying their lowly league position.

In defence, Tring out tackled Irish who were clearly rattled by their spirited opponents.

Strangely, an Irish yellow card saw them rally and threaten Tring’s line, with the 10-minute spell when the Londoners were down to 14-men being their best period of the game.

However, the teams swapped penalties and Tring were cruising at 18-3.

Two further Newton penalties sparked Irish to come back at Tring, and after some sustained pressure on the line, a couple of long passes saw the London side cross to take the score to 21-8.

Further indiscipline from Irish was very unfortunate for Tring as the referee blew the whistle to yellow card an Irish player as Tring centre John Preston went under the posts untouched.

This would have meant a bonus point for Tring as Jonny Morgan scored with the last play of the match.
