There was some impressive progress made by Tring Swimming Club at the Harpenden Open Meet.

A haul of 25 PBs from 58 swims represented a good step forward for a number of swimmers, coming very soon after many had done the same events in club time trials.

On top of the PBs, four new county times were achieved: Molly Bradley gaining two (100 back and 200 back); Sam Pyefinch in his first ever 100 fly; and Chloe Woodruff demonstrating her outstanding butterfly with 1.18.07 for 100m.

A big milestone was achieved by Brianna Mazey, breaking through the 30s barrier for the 50 freestyle with a fantastic 29.98.

Other great swims came from Rosie Cave (1.37) and Amaya Stephenson (1.54) in the 100 fly, Daisy Lang who swam two big PBs (3.33 in 200IM and 1.31 in 100 front crawl), and Erin Deacon (4s PB in 50 front crawl).

A sign of the progress being made at Tring is that the club now has 11 swimmers with 40 PBs better than county qualifying times – already greater than last year’s 38.

Meanwhile, at the first round of the National Arena League, Tring head coach Johnny Bradley said: “It was such an exciting team night and I was thrilled by how we swam, and in particular how we swam as a team.”

Overall Tring came a creditable seventh against very tough opposition. To get ahead of any club in the Arena League is an achievement in itself, and three of the clubs competing are a division above Tring in the Herts League.

The club recorded 44 PBs, including 27 out of the 34 individual races – special mentions go to Thomas Monks and Tom Meacock who both achieved PBs in all three of their individual races.

Two new county times were also achieved – Max Gething in 40.37 in the 50 backstroke, and Finlay Miles with an excellent second place in the U14 100 breaststroke in 1.30.86.

Another second place in the 100 breaststroke came from Chloe Woodruff – 1.28.06 now makes her the second fastest breaststroke swimmer at the club.

Mia Boersma set a 7s PB in the 100 freestyle, in 1.15.72, and Maria McCormack broke the 1.10 barrier with 1.09.34.

Finally, Molly Bradley clocked a wonderful 2s PB in her first 100m backstroke in 1.12.59, followed just 20 minutes later with an even better 1.11.55 – just half a second off a club record.

Swimmers of the night were Molly Bradley and Thomas Monks.
