A sense of deja vu as Tring get the better of Oxford

Having demolished Oxford HC’s fourth and fifth teams during their meteoric rise last season, the Tring men’s first team did it again with a 3-1 victory over Oxford 3s.

Elsewhere, the men’s 2s played West Hampstead 7s and, in an even and fiercely contested game, defences were on top for both teams.

However, with 20 minutes left West Hampstead scored a scrappy goal. Tring camped out in the opposition half for the remainder of the game but couldn’t get through and lost 1-0.

Despite losing both youth and wisdom to higher teams and struggling with a few new players, the men’s 3s performed well in a 6-2 defeat by a strong Staines team.

Tring looked dangerous going forward, but made too many mistakes in keeping their structure and organisation in defence.

The team can take encouragement from their attacking successes, good performances from the debutantes, and a strong showing from Harry Evans in goal.

Meanwhile, the Tring ladies’ first team came up short against a very well drilled Chiltern side.

The 3-1 scoreline doesn’t reflect the game, though, as Tring played some skilled hockey and kept possession of the ball well; they just struggled to find the net at the crucial moment.

Emily Hogan and Sue Cross combined well for the solitary Tring goal, and the team was pleased to welcome back Holly Glover.

The ladies’ 2s lost 9-0 away to Saffron Walden, but they kept their spirits up throughout.

With a player down due to last minute illness, Tring were always going to struggle. Player of the match was keeper Jade Edwards who saved plenty of shots, including a stunning overhead. Erin Crane also defended well and deserves a special mention.

Finally, the Tring men’s super vets played some very good hockey and link play in their 1-0 victory over Eastcote.

They displayed great positioning and notched a super goal after some very slick build-up play.

Eric and Nobby were very much in control at the back, while Lobster and Gilbert were composed in picking up the Eastcote forwards.
