With both the first and second teams enjoying a weekend off, Saturday presented an opportunity for Aylesbury Rugby Club’s third XV to take centre stage as they welcomed Slough IIs for the first game of 2015 at Ostler’s Field.

Aylesbury IIIs have enjoyed mixed success this season and are currently positioned in the top half of their league and they made a successful start to the new year on Saturday,

This non-league friendly fixture was played in excellent spirit and with it being the only game of the day for both clubs, there was a real mix of ages and abilities on display.

The Aylesbury team consisted of players from across the whole spectrum of the club, from the colts to the vets.

Although the freezing wind and grey damp conditions meant that the ball was often slipping from cold hands, there was still a good display of running rugby, particularly from the younger players.

There were two tries from Ay’s fly-half Sam Page along with a try apiece from Matt Deitz and Dave Hedley. The final score was 26-10 to the hosts

The first team return to their league campaign this weekend following a three-week break. The Ducks, who currently lie fifth in the Southern Counties North, welcome Thatcham to Ostler’s Field.

Aylesbury have remained undefeated at home in their last 14 games. The last time they lost at Ostler’s Field was against this weekend’s opponents back in September 2013.
