Daniel Ricciardo will line up third, with Max Verstappen fourth in a topsy-turvey affair, delayed by torrential rain.

Mercedes continued their dominance of the weekend, with Nico Rosberg taking pole position, snatching it from Lewis Hamilton’s grasp at the last gasp.

The first part of qualifying took more than an hour to run, with rain delaying the start before another downpour forced out the red flag. The session was stopped a further three times after crashes from Marcus Ericsson (Sauber), Felipe Massa (Williams) and Rio Haryanto (Manor).

Ricciardo and Verstappen though passed through the session with ease.

Q2 saw a dry line beginning to emerge and the teams scrambling to get dry tyres ready for their drivers. Ricciardo only just made it into the final part of qualifying with a last ditch lap good enough for fifth, while Verstappen was second.

The final session though was completed in dry conditions, but Verstappen’s final run was denied as he crossed the line too late, while Ricciardo set a time of 1:20.280 to pip him to third.

Tomorrow’s race gets underway at 1pm UK time.
