Aston Clinton’s Mark Webber will start his 2015 season at Silverstone this weekend when the opening round of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship takes place at Silverstone, writes James Beckett.
Webber will drive a Porsche 919-Hybrid with Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley. The trio will share duties at the wheel of a LMP1 prototype in all rounds of the WEC, including June’s Le Mans 24-Hour Race.
Fresh from setting the pace during the pre-season WEC Prologue at the Paul Ricard circuit in France, Webber and his team-mates are full of confidence ahead of Silverstone’s six-hour race this weekend.
The 38-year-old Australian said: “Clocking fast times at Paul Ricard was good for us all. We have worked really hard to be in this position, and we go to Silverstone looking for a win.
“Silverstone hosts the first round of a year-long championship, and it will be interesting to see how our pace sits alongside that of Audi and Toyota. I think we are set for a great season.”
The first two free practise sessions at Silverstone take place on Friday with qualifying on Saturday before the race starts at 12pm on Sunday.
