A team of 24 swimmers from Tring Swimming Club headed to Potters Bar for the first round of the Peanuts League – a very popular Hertfordshire junior league.
Competing in Division Two, the whole team – aged between nine and 12 – performed very well to record 21 first or second places out of 47 events, and finished second overall out of six teams.
Some of those who took part have only been at the club for a few months and were competing in their first gala.
Tring’s winning swimmers were: Max Getting (U12 backstroke), Finlay Miles (U13 breaststroke), Isobel Geller (U11 butterfly), Alice Weston (9 years freestyle), Nathan Gething (U13 freestyle), and the U13 boys’ relay team (Nathan, Fin, Max and Josh Weston) who won both the medley and freestyle events.
A total of 19 PBs were achieved during the evening. These came from: Kiera Wharton, Sam Pyefinch, Olivia Thompson, Annalise McKenna, Finlay Miles, Alice Weston, Oliver Denton-Sparke, Isobel Geller, Josh Weston, Hannah Knight, Callum Davis, Mia Boersma, Frankie Lorimer, Nathan Gething, Daisy Knight, and Max Gething. Nathan Gething also achieved a club best time of 30.60 for his 50m freestyle.
Coach Steve Aldred said: “I’m really proud of the team, particularly those who are new to galas, and just starting to see their hard training bear fruit for the first time.
“Olivia Thompson gets a special mention, as she came to the gala despite having felt unwell, and gave an excellent performance. Nathan Gething and Alice Weston also stood out with their outstanding races.”
Club captains Katy Colwell and Michael Renkel, as well as team member Molly Bradley, were there to support the younger swimmers in what was a fun team event and a terrific result for Tring.
