It was a mixed weekend for Aylesbury Hockey Club’s ladies with Saturday’s 2-1 win over Bicester followed by a 3-2 defeat at Oxford University IIs on Sunday.
Having beaten Bracknell last time out, Aylesbury began well against Bicester and grabbed an the lead when Angela Dickson deflected in Beth Upton’s short corner strike.
The visitors rallied and created a couple of chances, but home keeper Jade Hedger made some fine saves as the disciplined and well-drilled hosts remained one up at half-time.
Aylesbury then came out on the front foot in the second period and they went two ahead through captain Natasha James, who scored a reverse-stick strike following clever link-up play with Eliza Firth.
Again Bicester responded well and this time they managed to break through the home defence, however Aylesbury withstood further pressure with Ria Leadbetter making a well-timed challenge late on to secure the points
Then, on Sunday, goals from Chloe Banks and James were not enough in a 3-2 defeat to Oxford.
Aylesbury are fourth in the league and this week face Wycombe IIs.
