Aylesbury ladies produced one of their best performances of the season when they thrashed Wokingham 5-1 in Trysports Premier One.
Wokingham made the better start and opened the scoring after Aylesbury failed to clear their lines, but this seemed to kick-start the home side into life.
After failing to capitalise on a string of chances, Aylesbury’s pressure and persistence finally paid off when clever link-up play between Angela Dickson and Meg Chapple saw the home side awarded a short corner, from which Eliza Firth hammered home to bring her side level at half-time.
After having to withstand a brief spell of Wokingham pressure at the start of the second half, Aylesbury regained the upper hand and took the lead through Player of the Match Natasha James.
Minutes later James bagged her second following a well-worked short corner routine before left-back Ria Leadbetter’s well-timed tackle started an Aylesbury counter-attack as Chloe Banks picked out James, who took on the last defender and shot into the bottom corner to complete her hat-trick.
There was enough time left for youngster Alice Rolfe to bag a goal as she drove into the D and slipped the ball under the diving Wokingham keeper to wrap up a 5-1 victory and keep Aylesbury sixth ahead of this weekend’s game at Phoenix and Ranelagh.
