Aylesbury MMA fighter Jack Fletcher gets a shot at the European title later this month.
The 29 year-old heads to Oxford on Saturday, July 25 to meet Romania’s Attila Hanzel for the vacant Battle Arena amateur middleweight title.
Fletcher has been training with Neil McLeod at his gym on Pembroke Road for two years and gets his title fight after pulling off a shock win in Wolverhampton in March.
Hill went into the fight with an unbeaten record - and Fletcher shattered it in just 52 seconds! He describes his next opponent as ‘quite unorthodox and from what I’ve seen he doesn’t go to the ground very much’.
Fletcher says his biggest attribute is his fitness: “I was a commando in the Army and I’m always fit enough to fight at a good pace for the whole fight.”
Fletcher has done most of his fighting on the right-hand side of the bill, but has home advantage this time.
He grew up in Wantage, close to Oxford, before joining the Army at 17 and said: “I’ve had a lot of text messages and phone calls from people I went to school with who I haven’t seen for years. It should be a good night - as long as I win!”
