Vale of Aylesbury Athletics Club’s young hurdling star Jess Hunter continued her phenomenal year with a memorable victory in the English Schools Athletics Championships.
The youngster, who is currently ranked number one in the UK Power of 10 rankings for U20 women in the 100m hurdles, only narrowly missed out on running for Great Britain in the European Junior Championships and, just a few weeks ago, she lined up at the British Championships in the same race a Jess Ennis Hill.
This weekend Jess travelled to Gateshead for the English Schools Championships where she stormed through to gold.
The ESAA Championships feature the best young athletes in England and competition is always tough, with the athletes needing to be mentally strong as well as physically fit.
Jess won her heat on Friday with a brilliant new personal best of 13.66 seconds – the athlete in second place was almost a full second behind her, crossing the line in 14.53s.
Jess then kept her cool in Saturday’s final as she took a superb victory with an excellent run of 13.88s.
