Aylesbury ladies up to fifth after comfortable away win

Aylesbury ladies first team look on course to secure a top half finish in Trysports Premier One after a comfortable 3-0 win away at Phoenix & Ranelagh.

The away side were dominant for much of the first half but they had to be patient as Phoenix’s goalkeeper stood firm and kept the visitors at bay.

Aylesbury continued to attack in numbers and eventually a well-timed interception by Voirrey Holmes led to a break, from which Holmes played in Angela Dickson, who slotted home to put her side into a deserved lead.

The momentum was now with Aylesbury as they continued to attack at pace and were close to extending the lead when Player of the Match Eliza Firth fired an effort just wide.

No matter, Aylesbury made amends in the second half and, after withstanding some rare Phoenix pressure, they doubled their lead through Dickson following good work from Natasha James, who then got on the score sheet when she hammered a shot past the helpless home keeper.

The win takes Aylesbury back up to fifth ahead of this weekend’s final game of the season at home to fourth-placed Wycombe.
