Aylesbury Hockey Club’s ladies first team endured a 4-1 away defeat at Amersham & Chalfont in Trysports Premier One at the weekend.
The opening stages were promising for the visitors, who more than matched the well-drilled, high-flying hosts in a goalless first 20 minutes.
However, Amersham then broke the deadlock when they made no mistake after being gifted a penalty flick.
Aylesbury reacted well to the goal and began dominating possession, but the in-form Amersham keeper made a string of saves to thwart the visitors before eventually striker Voirrey Holmes finished coolly to deservedly bring her side level at half-time.
The second half was a different story though, as Amersham pushed forward and they retook the lead despite the best efforts of Player of the Match Jess Boult.
Aylesbury had chances to level but they were unable to score, and the home side caught their opponents on the break with two late goals.
Aylesbury face a daunting task this weekend when they welcome runaway leaders Buckingham IIs, who have scored 94 goals this season and conceded just four. Aylesbury are down to seventh.
