Young Ducks crash out of the cup

The Ducks looked like shadows of their former selves as they crashed out of the competition in a 5-2 defeat.

It was the hosts who made the brighter start, finding the opening goal of the match through an impressive counter attack early in the first half.

The Ducks were not behind for long, however, with Joe Gerrans putting his side back on level terms after he met a well-executed set piece by Miles Bridgeman.

Flackwell responded well to the setback, scoring a second goal just before half-time to put them back in front, and then another soon after the restart, extending their lead to 3-1.

It went from bad to worse for the Ducks when the home side were awarded a penalty. Goalkeeper Dan Smith dived the right way but the ball was perfectly placed into the bottom corner.

The game looked to be over at 4-1 but Aylesbury did not lose hope, and with 15 minutes to play, they were able to scrape a goal back through an Archie Harrison free-kick, making it 4-2.

Any hopes of a comeback were gone when Flackwell added a fifth to their tally after the Ducks were caught out with too many men forward, as they pushed for a third goal.

Although out of this cup, the Ducks still have silverware in their sights as next week they they travel to Risborough Rangers for the away leg of their Development Cup tie.
