Even so, with four minutes remaining, the Moles led 4-2 and victory looked assured but Potters Bar scored twice late on to dent FC’s promotion bid in Division One Central.

The first-half was a very different story as FC came flying out of the blocks with Gareth Price feeding Brian Haule whose header was saved by Ben Goode while Kieron Schmidt whistled a shot wide.

The opening goal duly arrived when, on 20 minutes, Daniel Murphy’s free-kick bobbled in front of goal and nestled into the corner.

In reply, Eoin Casey had a header saved from a corner by debutant Aylesbury keeper Mohammed Suleyman, however it was FC who would score next as a punch clear only fell into the path of Lynton Goss, who volleyed home for 2-0.

Garry Jones required just five minutes to reduce the deficit, heading home a corner, but Aylesbury remained the superior team as Haule converted a left-wing cross for 3-1.

In injury time at the end of the first-half, Price made progress down the right, beat the full-back and his cross shot was pounced upon by Haule, who netted his second and FC’s fourth as the hosts took what seemed a commanding 4-1 lead into half-time.

Goss should have made the game completely safe on 49 minutes but his point blank header was straight at Goode and that would prove costly.

Moments later, Danny Gordon handled in the box and Jones sent Suleyman the wrong way to bring the visitors back into the game.

Even at this stage, there wasn’t a great deal of panic. FC were clearing the ball with relative ease and were looking to attack as an errant back pass from Sean Grace almost saw him put into his own net.

A quality move then saw Price attack the Potter Bars defence and play a slide rule pass to Schmidt, with the midfielder blazing over.

Potters Bar already had luck from corners and in the 86th minute they gained more joy as Casey glanced the ball home from all of a few yards.

This should have been the point for FC to shut up shop, but Town had other ideas and deep into injury time, a free-kick saw Chris Doyle snatch a last-gasp equaliser.

Aylesbury are now eighth, seven points adrift of the play-offs.
