VIDEO: Moles beaten by Bedford on return to action

Aylesbury FC finally got back out onto the pitch this week but it was an unhappy return as they were beaten 1-0 away at Bedford Town.

The Moles have been repeatedly thwarted by the weather in 2016, managing just one league game prior to Saturday, and their rustiness was evident against Bedford.

After a first 15 minutes short of incident, FC goalkeeper James Weatherill was called into action for the first time when gathering James Peter’s header before Ben Farrell fired wide.

Brian Haule had Aylesbury’s first chance, nodding off target from a cross, but bar several close shaves from corners, the visitors rarely troubled Enol Ordonez Suarez in the home goal.

That was not the case at the other end, however, as Bedford took the lead when Ollie Peters attacked a static FC defence to power home a header and give his side a half-time lead.

Only a last-ditch Danny Gordon tackle prevented Josh Beech from doubling Bedford’s advantage early in the second half before Farrell again shot wide.

In reply, Lynton Goss attacked on the right hand side before advancing into the box but his effort lacked power as the home defenders comfortably dealt with most of what Aylesbury could throw at them to see out victory.

Aylesbury now find themselves 13 points adrift of the play-offs and host Arlesey on Tuesday evening.
