Tring Corinthians battle back to beat Clean Slate and keep the hot form going

The first half was a litany of missed chances; Leo Mullet had a shot saved when clean through while Bradley Wilkinson missed a header from six yards and several more half chances went begging.

Rob Lear found the net but the goal was harshly ruled out for offside, while Darren Miles overplayed and the visitors almost cashed in but the sides went in goalless at half-time.

Within one minute of the restart, Clean Slate took the lead when a striker was given too much space and time to plant the ball home.

Corries manager Colin Phillips had to shuffle the pack and throw caution to the wind, with Lee Herring brought back into the action after a long lay-off.

His guile and speed made an instant impact as he was fed by Alcock from a corner and fired in a drive that evaded the grasp of the keeper for the equaliser.

Time was running out and Corries swarmed forward. Mullet missed a simple chance before the winner came – Trevor Gibbs firing in a howitzer of a free-kick to seal the points.

There was just enough time for Kerry Gordon to head over from three yards, but Tring were happy to secure the three points from an unconvincing display against lowly opposition.
