Teenage striker earns Risborough a point against Langford

In a game that was hampered by high winds, Rangers made the early running, creating several chances in the first 20 minutes including a Martin Griggs effort ruled out for offside.

On 30 minutes, promising teenager Nicosia was on hand to tap in at the far post following a good move down the right side.

Risborough started the second half just as brightly as Gary Rymer hit the post but they were caught out minutes later when a long ball eluded the back four and Lanford’s striker ran through to equalize.

Rangers restored their lead two minutes later, however, when Griggs released Nicosia who ran through to score his second past the onrushing Langford goalkeeper.

With ten minutes left, Langford had the chance to level the score with a penalty but Rangers custodian Jack Brooker had other ideas, diving low to his right to save the spot-kick.

Shortly after, Risborough’s Chris Davies was sent off for a second yellow card, leaving Rangers to try to hang on to the three points with ten men, but it was not to be when, with a minute remaining, a hopeful lob cruelly assisted by the wind dropped in to the top corner.

The draw saw Rangers extend their unbeaten run to 11 games.

Rangers Reserves were away in the quarter-final of the Reserve Challenge Trophy, narrowly losing 2-1 to unbeaten Hoddesdon Town Reserves.

This Saturday Rangers’ first team are at home in the semi-final of the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup when the visitors are Thames Valley Premier League side Cookham Dean. Kick-off is at 1.30pm.

The Reserves are also in cup action, they visit MK Gallacticos for their quarter-final tie in the Berks & Bucks Junior Cup.

Following that, Risborough host Baldock next Tuesday.
