Aylesbury FC consolidated their play-off ambitions and moved back to third with a 1-0 victory at AFC Hayes on Tuesday.
Aylesbury were slow out of the blocks and struggled on a heavy pitch as they persisted with their intricate passing football, while Hayes dominated the early stages and were unlucky not to take the lead with a couple of good chances.
Half an hour in and Hayes had their best chance when a shot fired from the edge of the box was well saved by FC Keeper James Weatherill, from the resultant corner the ball was smashed against the crossbar from a Barrett header.
However, against the run of play, it was Aylesbury who took a lead into half-time when a corner right on the whistle fell to Jeanmal Prosper, who finished from close range.
The second half though was a different story. Aylesbury, now coming to terms with the pitch, were out of the blocks quickly and with the wind at their backs, were pressuring the Hayes defence.
There were chances for Ryan O’Toole, whose 25 yard shot was tipped around the post by the Hayes keeper, Davis Haule and Brad Wadkins, while thunderbolt half volley from Adam Logie sailed inches wide.
New signing David Deeney made a cameo performance at the end of the game as he helped the Moles see out their first win in almost a month.
