Risborough Rangers kept themselves firmly in the hunt for promotion in South Midlands League Division One with a 1-0 home win over Baldock Town on Saturday.
The opening ten minutes were scrappy as both teams fought tooth and nail to gain control of the game before, on 16 minutes, the visitors rattled Risborough’s bar in the closest either side came to scoring in the first half.
Risborough’s goalkeeper Steve Clark did well to tip a shot on to the bar as Baldock ended the half on top but the game remained goalless.
Rangers came out all guns blazing in the second period and within 10 minutes of the restart, Rangers’ Justin Hockley scored his first senior goal with a superb 25-yard effort to put his side ahead.
The game swung end-to-end after the hosts had taken the lead, but Risborough held out to claim what would be a precious three points in their quest for promotion,
The victory was Rangers’ fourth game unbeaten and second win and clean sheet in a row. They are now only four points from second place.
Risborough were again in action last night, Tuesday, when they entertained league leaders Welwyn Garden City, and this Saturday, Rangers visit Southall for another league encounter.
The following Wednesday, March 18, Risborough are again in league action away at London Lions.
