Reynolds frustrated with officials but takes the positives from Winslow defeat

Winslow United manager Scott Reynolds was frustrated with the officials following his side’s 3-1 league defeat at home to Broxbourne Borough.

Adam Murad put the visitors ahead before Brad Harrison doubled their advantage at half-time and though Tom Williams pulled one back with his first Winslow goal, a controversial penalty saw Broxbourne take home the points

Reynolds said afterwards: “It was a display of two halves from us. I made it very clear to the players that I wanted to see them follow through instructions better and play more football on the floor.

“We took that on board, but in the first half played too much in front of our goal rather than theirs. The opposition pressed and hurried us and managed to make the most of some poor defensive play.

“Following a shake-up from me to the lads, we came out a different side in the second half. We still played with a passing style, but in the right areas and at a far better tempo. We got one back and in truth had them on the back foot. The only team who looked like scoring was us.

“Then, sadly, a very soft penalty against the run of play, which even their manager confessed was fortunate and soft, allowed Broxbourne to make it 3-1 and that killed any chances of a comeback.

“It’s very disappointing that at this level such a decision can be made, but we must forget it and focus on the positives. The style of play and spirit in the second half was great to see. We have nine games left, from which I want five wins. We now have two tough games coming up, but we know we can get something from both if we apply ourselves for the full 90 minutes.”
