Mandeville School’s Under 18 football team is celebrating after winning a local derby against Aylesbury Grammar School to make the last 32 of the National Schools Cup.
The under 18 team, which is run by Wright Sports Academies are unbeaten in all competitions this season including the win over AGS in the fifth round of the prestigious competition.
Mandeville dominated possession throughout but lacked a cutting edge and were made to pay when AGS scored on the counter attack midway through the first half.
Mandeville equalised through Alex Wray but the second half was goalless, sending the game into extra-time at 1-1.
Airron Francis was brought down in the box by the AGS keeper and Aylesbury FC player Ollie Hogg duly dispatched. But with two minutes left, AGS hit back and matters had to be settled by the dreaded penalty shootout. Boasting one of the best stoppers in the business in Jack Hopwood, Mandeville took an unassailable shootout lead of 3-0 as he saved all three AGS efforts. The team now look forward to the next National Schools Cup game against Midlands side Brooke House College in the last 32.
