Lacklustre Corinthians are hit for four by Amersham

Corries were swamped by a young and energetic Amersham side, and they had two fine saves by Paul Jeffs to thank for keeping them in the game in the first half.

In fact, the only highlight for Tring was Lee Groves being high enough up the pitch to be caught offside for the first time in his career on 27 minutes.

With 40 minutes on the clock, an astonished Amersham striker was gifted a goal when a Corries defender headed the ball across his own six-yard box into his path.

Corries started the second half well and Joe Jary went close – but the referee awarded a harsh free-kick against Tring man Green on the edge of the box and the ball was drilled into the net to make it 2-0.

Again Corries rallied – Green had a header well saved and the rebound was hooked off the line, but calamity was just around the corner. The ball rolled under Rob Lear’s foot to put Amersham clean through for a 3-0 advantage.

Another free-kick in the 85th minute compounded Tring’s miserable afternoon as Amersham sealed the empathic win.

Corries have no game this weekend and they are hopeful that missing players will return from holidays or injury so they can get back to winning ways.

Elsewhere, Corries Reserves were unlucky to lose 1-0 against Winslow United. Dan Wills and Jack Gibbs both hit the woodwork for Corries, for whom Matt Double also impressed.
