King rescues Tring as Dacorum derby ends all square

Frankie Jowle and Josh Chamberlain struck to give the Comrades a commanding lead, but Tring rallied well to salvage a point in an entertaining SSML Premier Division clash.

Before kick-off there were presentations to three Berko players who have reached appearance landmarks, with Steve Hawes and Josh Chamberlain racking up 200 and Lewis Rodrigoe reaching 250.

The game was played in front of the biggest crowd of the division so far this season, boosted by a large number of local matches being called off due to waterlogged pitches.

Comrades boss Mick Vipond made one change from the side that beat Sun Sports in midweek, giving BJ Christie his first start for two months after injury, and the hosts took the lead after 15 minutes when Jowle slotted home coolly past Jack Hopwood.

Early in the second half, Berko stretched their lead to 2-0 when leading scorer Chamberlain converted a penalty after Christie was fouled.

The Comrades looked to be heading for a comfortable victory, but a double substitution from Tring manager Julian Robinson proved to be an inspired move as King scored with his first touch, heading home from a free-kick by ex-Comrade Kieron Turner.

Max Farrelly was then shown a yellow card for cynically bringing down Turner just outside the area as Tring began to get back in the game.

Christie thought he had added a third for the hosts when he netted, but it was disallowed for an infringement.

Berko were trying to keep the ball by the corner flag to run down the clock as it looked as though they would hold on for the victory.

However, deep into stoppage time, King again nodded home from another Turner free-kick to rescue a point for the visitors and ensure the Derby spoils were shared.
