King hails five-star Aston as 61FC are crushed

Aston Clinton returned to winning ways in style this week when they romped to a 5-0 win over The 61FC (Luton).

After some early 61FC pressure, Aston struck first blood when a long ball in behind set Lamar Mason-Williams away and he made no mistake, comfortably slotting past the onrushing Luton goalkeeper.

That set the tone and eased any Aston nerves with 18-year-old Kingsley Sibbs capitalising on a defensive mix-up to make it 2-0 before Giorgio Magnocavallo set up Sibbs for his second goal and Aston’s third.

A brilliant save from Ben Grasso then kept 61FC at bay as the visitors exerted some pressure but this was ended when Mason-Williams made it 4-0 shortly before half-time.

The second half was less one-sided but Aston did net again when Michael Harper coolly chipped the keeper.

Aston are now 13th in SSML Division Two.

Manager Jordan King said afterwards: “That was the best way to bounce back with a result and a performance to match. There are a few things that we need to work on at training but apart from that this was very pleasing.

“We’ve pulled away from the bottom and need to start looking up the table now rather than down.

“This coming Saturday we have arguably our toughest game of the season, away to Hale Leys in the Division Two Cup semi-final but we go there with no pressure and play as the underdogs and see where that takes us.”
