Heavy rain decimates sporting schedule

Heavy rain saw a number of local football fixtures called off at the weekend due to waterlogged pitches.

In the Southern League, both Aylesbury teams had their Division One Central games postponed. Aylesbury United’s game away at Uxbridge has been rearranged for Tuesday, February 3, at 7.45pm, while Aylesbury FC’s home match against Daventry Town also succumbed to the weather at the weekend.

Both sides will be hoping to return to action this weekend with United hosting leaders Kettering Town and FC travelling to Royston.

Meanwhile, in the South Midlands League, Tring Athletic’s Premier Division clash against AFC Dunstable was another to fall foul of the weather. They are away to Colney Heath this weekend.

In Division One, Risborough Rangers were due to host Codicote but once again the weather had other ideas.

Rangers’ next game sees them host league leaders Welwyn Garden City in a top-of-the-table clash this Saturday. Risborough, who are fourth, were the first team this season to come away from Welwyn with a point after their previous encounter ended 0-0 back in October.

Rangers are in action again next Tuesday when they entertain fellow promotion hopefuls Codicote.

Hale Leys United’s match against Totternhoe in Division Two was also postponed.
